常用用法

importance是不可数名词,作“重要(性)”解,强调不受任何事物限制的重要或重要性,也可指一件重要的事或一种重要的东西,前面加不定冠词。指人时表示“傲慢”。
importance后可接to或for。
(be) of importance表示“某事〔物〕重要”。

这两个词的共同意思是“重要,重要性”。其区别在于:
1.importance意为“重大,重要性”,强调不受任何事物的限制的重要或重要性。例如:
The test is of special importance.这次试验特别重要。
It is of much importance to keep your teeth in good condition.保持牙齿健康是很重要的。
We all know the importance of good health.我们都知道,健康的身体对我们很重要。
The importance of washing one's hands is that it prevents infection.洗手之所以重要,是因为它能防止传染疾病。
2.consequence强调不可忽视的或对随后的事件颇有影响的事物的“重要,重要性”。例如:
The matter is of no consequence.这问题毫不重要。
A more important consequence of the war was the completion of the unification of Germany.这场战争的一个更重要的结果是德国完成了统一。
If they knew it, the consequences would be terrible.如果他们知道此事,其后果将极其严重。
